Casting, MALE ACTOR (50+)
201 Dance Company
Auditions: Sunday 1st March 2020, 12-2pm, Dance Attic
Rehearsals and performances: Intermittent dates March – August 2020.
About the role
201 Dance Company is holding auditions for a male actor with a playing age over 50 years old to join us in devising, rehearsing and touring our brand-new production: “Sad Book”. Ideally we’re looking for someone with some movement experience, whether this be contemporary, hip-hop, physical theatre or other.
This is a lead role in 201 Dance Company’s stage adaptation of “Sad Book”, by Michael Rosen. You’ll be playing a father who has recently lost his son, and venture into his feelings of sadness, grief and acceptance. This is an intimate part, with no verbal text used in the production. We’re looking for someone with great stage presence, who is also not afraid of some movement. This is not a dance role.
About the Production
“Sad Book” is an adaptation of Michael Rosen and Quentin Blake’s award-winning picture book that explores, in simple language, what it means to be sad. It chronicles a writer’s grief at the death of his son, and how he continues his life afterwards. It’s a moving combination of sincerity and simplicity, acknowledging that sadness can be a normal part of life. 201 has a reputation for emotionally-engaging work, and we are ecstatic to be bringing this beautiful piece of writing to the stage.
We're looking for someone who can commit to:
28–29 March: 2 half-day devising rehearsals in London
6–11 April: One week of devising rehearsals in Cheltenham
15–31 August: Two weeks’ performance run in Edinburgh
May – July: Approximately 5-10 days of rehearsals / preview performances
Possible further touring in late 2020/throughout 2021.
We'd ideally like to work with a performer who would be interested in continuing a UK tour with the company following our Edinburgh run.
Fees for confirmed dates:
28 and 29 March: £50 per half day (£100 total)
6 to 11 April: £490 per week (£490 total)
15-31 August: £490 per week (£980 total)
Fees for additional dates in May - July:
£100 per day for a standalone day,
£50 per half day
£485 per full week.
Travel to rehearsals or performances outside of London and accommodation outside of London will be provided.
Performers are expected to have a London base. Travel within London or relocation costs to London for rehearsals or performances will not be covered by the company.
A 2 hour group audition will be held. This will consist of some exercises and simple, free-movement. There is no need to prepare anything in advance.
Sunday 1st of March, 12pm
Registration starts at 11:45am.
Location: Dance Attic in Fulham.
368 North End Rd, Fulham, London SW6 1LY
