AUDITIONS

Casting, MALE ACTOR (50+)

201 Dance Company

Auditions: Sunday 1st March 2020, 12-2pm, Dance Attic

Rehearsals and performances: Intermittent dates March – August 2020.

About the role

201 Dance Company is holding auditions for a male actor with a playing age over 50 years old to join us in devising, rehearsing and touring our brand-new production: “Sad Book”. Ideally we’re looking for someone with some movement experience, whether this be contemporary, hip-hop, physical theatre or other.

This is a lead role in 201 Dance Company’s stage adaptation of “Sad Book”, by Michael Rosen. You’ll be playing a father who has recently lost his son, and venture into his feelings of sadness, grief and acceptance. This is an intimate part, with no verbal text used in the production. We’re looking for someone with great stage presence, who is also not afraid of some movement. This is not a dance role.

About the Production

“Sad Book” is an adaptation of Michael Rosen and Quentin Blake’s award-winning picture book that explores, in simple language, what it means to be sad. It chronicles a writer’s grief at the death of his son, and how he continues his life afterwards. It’s a moving combination of sincerity and simplicity, acknowledging that sadness can be a normal part of life. 201 has a reputation for emotionally-engaging work, and we are ecstatic to be bringing this beautiful piece of writing to the stage.
